Current best #5s

Today on SportsCenter they did a segment to celebrate Cinco De Mayo where they did the top 10 athletes to ever wear the number 5. I thought this was a pretty cool idea, I agreed with most of their picks, their number one was Joe Dimaggio and second Johnny Bench. Most were older players with the exception of Jason Kidd and Donovann Mcnabb. I decided I would do a quick list as well, but on my list I would do the top 4 numbers 5s that are currently playing in their respective sport in my opinion. So here it goes.....

4. Kevin Garnett

Garnett has always been one of my favorite players to watch in the NBA, There's not another player in the league that has always brought as much energy and love for the game than he has. I basically carried a franchise when he was in Minnesota and after coming to the Celtics in 2007, let them to a championship. He's been a 12 time All-Star, an MVP and a continued force on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. His career stats include 19.8 points,10.8 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game.

3. Donovan Mcnabb

Number three is going to be the ex-Eagles QB Donovan Mcnabb. Although he could never win the big one, Donovan Mcnabb has been one of the winningest QBs we've seen in our generation, behind the likes of Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. Mcnabb is just an all around class act, great leader, and good role-model. Mcnabb has averaged 2,665 yds with 11 touchdown in his 11 year career with the Eagles, with a career passer's rating of 86.5. Mcnabb lead the Eagles to 5 NFC Championship games and one super bowl, falling short to the Patriots. He holds numerous Eagles records including most single season completions and yards. With his ability to escape the sack and make plays outside the pocket has always made Donovan a very exciting player to watch. His ability to win, and his on and off the field demeanor will put him down as one of the greatest Eagles of all time.

2. Albert Pujols

Number two is going to be St. Louis Cardinal's 1st baseman Albert Pujols. Baseball's pure power hitter, and what puts this guy aside from the rest is his ability to avoid the off the field drama, and to be able to actually say he's never used PEDs. Pujols is absolutely an animal when he comes up to the plate, in my opinion he's arguably baseball's best player. Pujols is an 8 time all star, 3 time NL MVP, and has won a world series(2006). He leads all active players in batting average(.334), slugging percentage (.628), and on-base percentage(.427). Pujols is also one of the leading home run hitters in major league history. Its hard to say that Pujols isn't one of the best of this last decade if not the best in the game right now, easily one of the best #5s.

1. Jason Kidd

Although he is wearing number 2 now with the Dallas Mavericks, Jason Kidd will always be number 5. What isn't there to say about one of the best point guards of all time? Kidd has done and seen it all. Lets start with he has been a 10 time all star, was the NBA co-rookie of the year, a five time league leader in assists per game, 9 time All-Defensive selection, only player in NBA history to have 15,000 points, 7,000 rebounds, and 10,000 assists throughout his career, hes second all-time in playoff triple doubles, 2nd all time in assists, and 3rd all time in regular season triple doubles. Kidd has average 13.6 points, 9.2 assists, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game in his career. He lead the Nets to two consecutive Finals appearances in 2002 and 2003. Based on his stats, records, and being an all around winner there's no way he isn't number 1 out of the current number 5s.

Well there's my top 4 active players wearing number 5 at the moment. What would your order be? who would you add? until next time.....
